One of the cherished traditions of our Church School and the parish is the yearly visit of St. Nicholas to each of the classrooms. This tradition dates to near the founding of our parish when Helen Roshak (Memory Eternal!) sewed a set of bishops vestments to make the students aware that St. Nicholas was indeed a bishop of the Church. As such, “Bishop Nicholas” visits each of the classrooms and discusses his life, miracles, and good works. And before departing, he gives each student a few gold coins to remind them of his secret charity to the three marriageable daughters of a widower of Patara in present-day Turkey.
On the feastday (December 6th) in 2008, our parish and children celebrated the Divine Liturgy which was followed by a celebration of St. Nicholas with stories, song, holiday crafts and fellowship.
